SHOAII RESIDENCE

NEWPORT BEACH, CA

The property is a corner lot, with the side facing the street highly visible. The idea was to treat both the front and sides to be equally important, and orient the entry to the corner, rather than to either street. The house was rotated slightly to accentuate this, and the entry given a quarter circle design. Most of the lots in the area are narrow, forcing the garage in front, making it a prominent element. We had enough space to push the garage toward the rear, thereby giving the architecture around the living room, which opens to a semi-private terrace, greater importance. 

A custom steel floating circular stair occupies a central location, and around this stair all the elements are organized.  The house contains two master suites, a loft, and two bedrooms on the upper level, and a guest room on the lower level. The living room, dining room, and entry are separated from the family room and kitchen by a partially open curved wall around the stair. A multi panel door opens to a rear patio with a fireplace which can be seen from inside.
