SCHLINGER

LOG HOME

WHITEFISH, MONTANA

The walls of this 6000 square foot house is built entirely out of logs. The shell was assembled off site, disassembled, and reassembled  on site. The doors and windows were then cut with a chain saw. The shape of the plan conforms to the site, which is bisected by a seasonal stream.

The surrounding area is heavily wooded, with glimpses of Whitefish lake visible between the trees. The open plan is organized around a central double fireplace which serves as a structural support for the joining of several roof beams. The terrace is covered by the extended roof, and enjoys a wood burning fireplace of stone which extends from the ground level through the peak of the roof, as both a structural and architectural element.

Below the main level is a large bonus entertainment area and office. A four car attached garage accommodates a vast array of toys for the enjoyment of all that Northwestern Montana has to offer.
